The Most Visible Swimsuit Colors Underwater (and Why "Bright" Isn't Enough)
Share
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1 to 4. It's silent, it's fast, and it often happens with adults nearby. When you scan the water for your child, every second counts. The color of their swimsuit has a real effect on how quickly you find them.
The most visible swimsuit colors
Underwater, color behaves differently than it does on land. Blues, darks and pastels blend into the water and can disappear within seconds. The colors that stay the most visible are neon pink, neon yellow, neon green and neon orange.
In our first fabric test, we placed nine bright fabrics at three depths in a murky pool. At 43.5 inches, neon yellow, green and pink were the clear winners, with orange close behind. Two tie-dye fabrics that looked bright but had a lot of blue had essentially vanished by 33 inches.

Why a bright pink suit from another brand isn't the same
Here's what surprised us most: being pink or yellow isn't enough. Intensity matters.
In the same test, two pinks that looked similar on dry land performed very differently underwater. The darker pink (3rd from the left in the image above) started disappearing at 33 inches, while the lighter neon pink was still visible at 43.5 inches (6th from the left). Two yellows did the same thing: the muted one faded at the bottom of the pool while the brighter one stayed clear.
So a suit that looks bold in the store, or in the sun, can still blend into the water. "Bright" is a description. Visible underwater is something you have to test.

How we chose our colors
We didn't pick colors by eye. Every See Me color was selected through underwater visibility testing and wavelength measurement:
- Testing in pools and lakes
- Different depths and lighting conditions
- Real-world movement and submersion
- Measuring each fabric's wavelengths to confirm it falls within a narrow, highly visible range
Any color that didn't make the cut was eliminated. Today we use only the same five neon colors across every suit: neon yellow, neon green, neon pink and 2 neon oranges. And every suit includes at least two of them, so there's always more than one high-visibility color working for you.
A nice bonus: since every print uses the same five colors, siblings can wear different styles and still match.

Color is a layer, not a lifeguard
A high-visibility swimsuit helps you see your child faster. It never replaces supervision. Keep young swimmers within arm's reach, assign a "water watcher" who isn't on their phone, and invest in swim lessons and properly fitted life jackets.
