About See Me Swimwear
Built on Science. Driven by Motherhood.
A few years ago, I learned something that changed the way I dressed my children for the water:
Not all “bright” swimsuits are actually visible underwater.
Research shows that certain colors — particularly neon orange, pink, green, and yellow — are significantly more visible in water than blues, pastels, whites, and darker tones. Yet most children’s swimwear on the market is still made in the very colors that disappear.
At the time, all of my kids were wearing blue and pastel suits.
So I switched them to what I thought were safer options. But when I began testing those suits in real pools and lakes, I was shocked.
Being “yellow” or "pink" wasn’t enough.
Neon intensity mattered.
Patterns changed visibility.
Some suits that looked bold in sunlight vanished within seconds underwater.
Then one day, my four-year-old stepped off the edge of a pool and immediately sank. I was sitting next to him and pulled him out right away. He was fine.
But it reinforced what the data already tells us:
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1–4.
It is silent. It is fast. And it often happens when adults are present — but momentarily distracted.
Seconds matter.
The Testing Behind See Me
As a mom of three (ages 6, 4, and 1) and an MIT graduate, I approached this like a problem to solve.
We didn’t just choose bright colors.
We tested them.
Our ongoing testing process includes:
- Pools and lakes
- Different depths and lighting conditions
- Real-world movement and submersion
- Measuring fabric wavelengths to determine true visibility
We eliminated any color that didn’t fall within a narrow range of highly visible wavelengths.
What surprised us most:
- Many commonly accepted “bright” colors perform poorly underwater.
- Neon versions perform dramatically better.
- Even a highly visible base color can disappear if too much low-visibility color is added in a pattern.
That’s why we test every color and every pattern before it becomes a See Me suit.
Visibility isn’t an aesthetic choice. It’s a measurable standard.
Safety First. Comfort Always.
But visibility alone isn’t enough.
Our suits are made with:
- High-quality UPF protective fabrics
- Thoughtful fits for active kids
- Covered zippers and comfortable construction
- Ethical, small-batch production
Because safety should never come at the expense of comfort.
Our Mission
See Me Swimwear exists to raise the standard for children’s swimwear.
To make visibility the expectation — not the exception.
To help parents feel more confident near the water.
To turn research into real-world protection.
Putting my children in highly visible swimwear feels like buckling a seatbelt. You hope you never need it. But if you do, it could make all the difference.
From my family to yours — we’re here to help you see them faster.
Because sometimes, seconds change everything.
